Goals & Objectives
Education Goal
This CME activity is designed to increase the identification and effective
treatment of patients with COPD by improving the knowledge, competence
and evidence-based performance of healthcare professionals and
improving systems of care, in the following areas:
- Specific review of diagnostic and screening guidelines
- Guideline based approach to management strategies
- Specific review of treatment guidelines
- Scientific review of current clinical trial data
available in this area
- Emphasis on improving systems of care to enhance
clinician performance and patient outcomes
Objectives
At the conclusion of this program participants will be able to:
- Discuss the prevalence of chronic obstructive pulmonary
disease in the United States
- Define and classify COPD utilizing the Global Initiative
for Chronic Obstructive Disease (GOLD) guidelines
- Implement symptom-based questionnaires for differentiating
COPD from Asthma
- Repeat screening and diagnostic systems of care
for patients with or at risk of COPD
- Identify treatment options available to patients
with COPD
- Discuss the importance of adherence to therapy
for patients with COPD
